[PERMANENTLY CLOSED] My Tai Tai, a delicious few hours in Isaan, Thailand

There is only one cuisine that I crave on a regular basis, and that is Thai food. There's something so addictive about the distinctive ingredients used in traditional Thai dishes, from the fragrant Thai basil to the kaffir lime and lemongrass. And not to sound picky or anything, but Thai curry is the only curry I enjoy. Maybe my craving is so strong because there are so few quality Thai restaurants in Hong Kong, as for example, I was sorely disappointed by the raved-about Samsen on Stone Nullah Lane when I visited on a random weeknight recently.

The newly opened My Tai Tai in 8 Lyndhurst Terrace had everything I would expect from an authentic Thai eatery - from the food all the way to the immaculate level of service and hospitality. The concept is based on "Baw", a young Thai woman from Isaan who moved from her countryside village to Bangkok to build a successful life for herself. Read on for some of the must-try dishes at My Tai Tai:

Thai Iced Tea (HK$40) - lightly spiced, and created with strong black tea and condensed milk. The restaurant recommended us to try the hot version first (clearly I wasn't listening).

Tom Yum Goong Mae Nam (HK$128 pp), made with sweet & sour seafood soup, river prawn, lime leaf and chili. JUST hot enough, but not so overpowering that I couldn't lick the bowl clean! So good.

"Pla Pae Sa" Steamed Black Cod (HK$258) in a sour plum-infused soup, with Chinese Celery, Minced Pork, Spring Onion and Coriander. Flaky, incredibly tender cod and a soup that goes perfectly with the sticky rice.

Satay Gai (HK$24 per piece) with deliciously smoky barbecue-marinated organic chicken, peanut miso and pickled cucumber.

"Sir Krong Moo Yang Sord Makham" (HK$188) or barbecue pork back ribs with tamarind and a sriracha glaze. Perfect for sharing!

The intoxicatingly rich Wagyu Beef Brisket Panang Curry (HK$168) with chilli, pepper, and coconut milk. My absolute favourite of the night, paired with fresh Roti (HK$22 per piece) - also a must-try at My Tai Tai.
