American Diner-Inspired Brunch at Lily & Bloom

Located in the vibrant heart of Lan Kwai Fong, partygoers and post-work drinkers fawn over Lily & Bloom's Prohibition Happy Hour - doubtless the perfect way to kick off a weekend night of debauchery. While we can't get enough of the delicious cocktails and trendy bar scene at LB, there's a lot more to this space than the nightlife. Just one floor below the bar on the fifth floor is a kitchen & dining room that do some of the best American food in town - and weekend brunch is no exception!

Now you can recover from your Lily hangover with some Bloom brunch, which introduces a new menu that recreates and elevates the famous breakfast food found at a typical roadside American diner. For only HK$495 per person, weekend brunchers can enjoy a salad & appetisers buffet, an endless flow of 5 hearty dishes from the rotating Blackboard Specials served straight to your table, and free-flow Bellinis, Bloody Marys, Beers, Summer Cup, tea or juice. For an extra HK$120, you can add on 6 pieces of freshly-shucked oysters. If you're not keen on the blackboard specials, there's also a selection of a la carte mains that you can opt for for additional $$. There are 2 seatings you can book for, the first being at 11:30AM and the second at 1:30PM.

Needless to say, we were completely stuffed by the end of this brunch, and I 100% regretted wearing a crop top with tight jeans (of all days, why).

The appetiser selection isn't as large as the LB Lunch Market Feast, but showcases a balanced variety without overdoing it. There were many types of salads, including this cherry tomato one with pomegranate, chicken salad with what I believe were cous cous and crushed nuts, and roasted cauliflower. They were all refreshing, and a nice break away from boring, traditional leafy salads.

Moving down the buffet line, there's a selection of charcuterie, cold cuts, cheeses and crusty bread. Nothing not to love! The rest of the buffet (not pictured) features a cured salmon seafood station with lemon wedges, chocolate fountain with dipping ingredients, and even a cupcake-decorating corner for the kiddies. Perfect for fam brunch.

Free-flow Summer Cups, Lily & Bloom's signature brunch cocktail, and my new go-to brunch drink. It's made with Pimm's No.1, fresh lemon, fresh mint leaves and syrup, and so easy to drink that you're tipsy before you know it. Here I am being a greedy b, sadly not such a rare sight.

Crispy American bacon is my kryptonite. If I so much as get a whiff of crispy bacon, I will not hesitate to take out whatever's in my way to get to it. That said, the crispy bacon on our smashed avocado toast was perfection, and the avocado was zesty and nicely seasoned. The bread underneath had this soft yet crunchy texture that allowed me to cut through it without making a total mess on the plate (looking at chu, Coffee Academics).

Second from the blackboard specials: Corned beef hash with two poached eggs. Digging into this felt like pure indulgence, and I enjoyed every second of it.

Billy's Homemade Blueberry Pancakes with crispy bacon and sausages. It really doesn't get more American diner-y than this! I liked how the pancakes weren't smothered in syrup and retained a bit of savoriness, aided by the acidity of the blueberries sandwiched between.

Again with the interesting bread texture, but I think I preferred it more with the avocado. When it comes to French Toast in general, I'm hard to impress anyway because I'm so staunchly dedicated to the ones my mom makes at home.

Last but certainly not least, we were brought Lily & Bloom's famous American fried chicken with gravy! This is probably already my third or fourth time having it, and every time I'm impressed by the gorgeous crunchiness of the skin while the meat inside stays tender. I wish it had arrived a bit earlier in the courses though so I could really appreciate the flavours and textures because at this point, I was already sporting a full on food baby. But you should know that this fried chicken is damn gooood.
